Our Project Was Awarded Under the Horizon Europe Climate Adaptation Call

The results of the Horizon Europe Program (Horizon Europe) Climate Change Adaptation Mission 2024 call have been announced. Out of a total of 55 projects and 1,408 organizations that submitted applications and advanced to the second stage in this highly competitive call, 19 projects were awarded funding. According to the announcement made by TÜBİTAK, the authorized entity of Horizon Europe in Türkiye, three projects involving six Turkish organizations were selected for funding, with these organizations collectively receiving €1,916,687 in grants. Among the organizations granted funding under this call is the Resource, Environment and Climate Association (REC), participating as a partner in the JUST4CARE project.

What is the JUST4CARE Project?

As the Resource, Environment, and Climate Association (REC), we are proud to participate in the JUST4CARE (JUSTice for Communities Adaptation and REsilience) project, which is supported by the European Commission’s Horizon Program. This project will be implemented with an international team of 17 partners from six different countries. Türkiye’s other partners in the project include Çankaya Municipality and Bursa Uludağ University.

The JUST4CARE project aims to develop innovative solutions with a focus on justice and equity in climate change adaptation strategies. The project’s core vision is to respond to the growing inequalities faced by disadvantaged communities, elderly populations, and socio-economically vulnerable groups as a result of climate change, by fostering a fair and resilient society.

The project will be implemented in four capitals: Budapest (Hungary), Madrid (Spain), Ankara (Türkiye), and Zagreb (Croatia). Supported by the Horizon Europe Program with a total budget of approximately €7.1 million, the project seeks to leverage nature-based solutions to provide resilient infrastructure to mitigate the impacts of climate change. The project is set to begin in 2025 and is planned for completion in 2028.

Through JUST4CARE, local governments, academic institutions, and civil society organizations will collaborate to develop climate adaptation strategies that can be shared across different cities. The project’s objectives include ensuring the active participation of vulnerable communities and fostering intercity knowledge exchange to develop fair and effective solutions.

The project details will be shared from project web page.
